ChatGPT Edu, a secure and adaptive conversational AI tool from OpenAI, is available to all currently registered medical and graduate students at Icahn Mount Sinai, along with a cohort of faculty, researchers, and staff.
Powered by OpenAI's latest models, ChatGPT Edu assists our community to teach, learn, research, and connect and advances the School's Framework for scholarly use of AI.
This initiative is the result of a close collaboration between the Scholarly and Research Technologies team, the Department of Medical Education, the Graduate School leadership, and OpenAI. ChatGPT Edu is available through an institutional agreement between Icahn Mount Sinai and OpenAI to ensure our data will be securely stored and won't be leveraged to train OpenAI's models.
The Levy Library hosts AI workshops designed for educators, faculty, and instructors exploring AI-driven teaching strategies, as well as students and staff interested in mastering AI fundamentals, including ChatGPT.
You can now watch the full recordings in Levy Library's YouTube channel playlist - AI in Research, Scholarship, Teaching, and Learning.

Restricted input: No personally identifiable information/protected health information should be input into ChatGPT.Edu. Do not paste any data from the EHR.
Accuracy: ChatGPT may produce confident but inaccurate information (hallucinations), provide outdated sources, and struggle with niche or specialized academic topics. The model may oversimplify nuanced or multi-faceted academic concepts, leading to incomplete understanding.
Ethical concerns: it's the users' responsibility to ensure proper attribution for any content generated by using ChatGPT.Edu. Content generated by ChatGPT.Edu may inadvertently reflects biases present in its training data, potentially perpetuating stereotypes or skewed perspectives.
Non-textual, non-numeric data: as a language model, ChatGPT cannot directly analyze genomic sequences or other non-textual, non-numeric data, though it can assist in supportive tasks such as generating code snippets or interpreting textual outputs.
Environmental impact: using ChatGPT requires significant computational power, both for training large language models and for running them at scale, which contributes to a substantial carbon footprint due to energy-intensive data center operations.
Developing learning material: Streamline the creation of content that supports learning. ChatGPT.Edu can help generate syllabi, lecture notes, quizzes, study guides, examples, case studies, and interactive scenarios for active learning. Use ChatGPT to simplify complex medical jargon or generate examples that resonate with diverse audiences.
Collaborative learning and engagement: Use ChatGPT as an assistant to foster active discussions and to respond to questions. It can also suggest interactive techniques for engaging large or virtual audiences.
Jumpstart task performance: Generative pre-trained transformers(GPT) are custom versions of ChatGPT that users can personalize for specific tasks or topics by adding instructions, information, and features.
Technical and administrative support: ChatGPT.Edu assists with writing programming code, configuring infrastructure, and troubleshooting technical issues. It can also streamline drafting policies and proceduresfor administrative efficiency
Data analysis: Uses Python code libraries as it performs advanced data analysis and extracting insights.
Research ideation: Brainstorm innovative research ideas or refine proposals for applications.
